In life, we often face uncertainties, challenges, and trials that can shake our confidence and leave us feeling overwhelmed. During these times, many people find solace and strength in their faith, particularly in the promises made by God. The Bible is filled with assurances of God’s love, provision, and guidance, offering believers a firm foundation to stand on. This concept, often referred to as “standing on the promises of God,” serves as a reminder of the unwavering support and faithfulness of God in our lives. I love that hymn “Standing on the Promises of God”. I’ve been singing it a lot these days. I see how my life has taken a turn for the worse. I don’t smile like I used to. I don’t laugh out loud like I used to. I find myself sad and angry many times and I realize it’s because I’ve been beaten down mentally and emotionally. I almost gave in just to keep the peace. But then, I heard the song “Standing on the Promises of God!”. And I realized this is exactly what I need to do. Stand on His promise to supply my needs, stand on His promise to wipe my tears, and calm my spirt, stand on the fact He would never leave me or forsake me, no matter what things look or feel like in my life, God is always with me. I am going to keep standing on His promises. In this blog, there are some things you can do to keep your faith in God and His promises.

What Does It Mean to Stand on God’s Promises?

To “stand on the promises of God” means to trust in and rely on the assurances given in Scripture. It involves believing that God’s words are true and that He will fulfill what He has promised. This faith is not passive but active; it requires us to hold onto God’s promises, even when circumstances suggest otherwise. It’s about building our lives on the solid rock of God’s word, rather than the shifting sands of our emotions or the world around us.

Key Promises of God

  1. Promise of Salvation
One of the most fundamental promises is the assurance of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” This promise offers hope for eternal life and a restored relationship with God.
  2. Promise of Provision
God promises to provide for our needs. Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” This assurance allows us to trust that God will take care of our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
  3. Promise of Peace
In a world full of turmoil and stress, God’s promise of peace is a comforting assurance. John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” This peace is not dependent on external circumstances but comes from a deep sense of God’s presence and care.
  4. Promise of Strength and Help
Life can be challenging, but God promises to be our strength and help. Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” This promise reassures us that we are not alone in our struggles.
  5. Promise of Guidance
God promises to guide us through life. Proverbs 3:5-6 advises, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” This guidance can bring clarity and direction when we face decisions and uncertainties.

How to Stand on God’s Promises

  1. Know the Promises
To stand on God’s promises, we first need to know what they are. Regular reading and study of the Bible help us understand the promises God has made. It’s through Scripture that we discover His character and His plans for us.
  2. Meditate and Memorize
Meditating on and memorizing Scripture helps to internalize God’s promises. When faced with difficult situations, recalling these verses can provide comfort and strength.
  3. Pray with Faith
Prayer is a powerful way to claim God’s promises. When we pray, we can remind ourselves of God’s assurances and ask Him to fulfill them in our lives. Prayer also helps us align our hearts with God’s will.
  4. Live in Obedience
Standing on God’s promises also involves living in obedience to His word. Our faith is demonstrated through our actions, and obedience shows that we trust God’s promises to be true and reliable.
  5. Share with Others
Sharing the promises of God with others can encourage them and strengthen their faith. It also reinforces our own belief in these promises as we testify to God’s faithfulness.

Conclusion

Standing on the promises of God is a powerful way to navigate the challenges and uncertainties of life. It is an act of faith, trust, and obedience that anchors us in the unchanging nature of God’s word. As we hold onto His promises, we find hope, strength, and peace, knowing that God is faithful and His words are true. Let us continue to stand firm on the promises of God, confident that He will fulfill them in His perfect timing and according to His perfect will.
