The Tongue, Two-Edge Sword

The tongue is a two-edge sword. It can speak life and death. The tongue is cunning and sly. It can charm you and make you feel happy. The tongue can break your spirit and stop your destiny. Because the tongue is a two-edge sword. It can speak life and death. I remember being so in love with this man. He was so understanding and kind. He spoke strength to me. Told me I could do anything in life when I did not believe it. We were friends for years. When I saw him years later, it was like time stood still and he was still the same man I met all those years ago. The tongue is a two-edge sword, it can speak life and death. We started being friends again, but he is not the same man. His tongue speaks negativity except when he is speaking of himself. He holds secrets and use them against those he professes to love. His tongue is wicked.

In life we must take time to get to know people. There is no hurry to be in a relationship. The best relationship is the relationship we can have with ourselves first. Knowing who we are first can determine what type of partner we will choose. Because we show people how to treat us. We give them all the clues they need to get us to say yes to a relationship without letting them work at winning our hearts. We say yes, when we should have said no, we do not look at the red flags and when we do, we think we can change them or make them stop waving.

Listen, stop telling secrets, stop sharing your painful past and your insecurities! If you have chosen the wrong man or woman, they will use this against you at the first opportunity. Most people have your best interest at heart but there are others that will try and destroy you because of their own insecurities. We must get to know people before we go all in. There is no hurry. We must take our time. “Words spoken by your tongue determine the direction of your life, just like the rudder of a ship determines the way the ship will go.” It begs the term, “loose lips, sink ships.” The tongue is like that. It can drown you. The words emanated from a tongue that spews venom is deadly!

I hear people saying they want to marry or be in a relationship and that is a beautiful thing but if you are not taking the time to get to know you or that person, you may be heading for heart break. Nothing is more devastating than divorce. No one marries to get divorced but at what cost are we willing to stay in a relationship that is killing us from the inside out?  And once we come out of the relationship, if ever, are we willing to get the help we need to get past that toxic relationship? The tongue is a two-edge sword. Take the time to know someone. Life can be destroyed with words. There is no such thing as sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me. I do not know who made that saying but they obviously not living in the 21st century.
