Welcome to Footsteps to Freedom! I am so excited to share life experiences with you all.
It is my hope that my journey to freedom will help you start your first steps.
My name is Valerie. I am a licensed certified supervised addictions counselor, a published author, alumni of The House of Ruth Outreach Volunteer Program, and the co-owner of Montebello Medical Billing, Coding, and Consulting Company, LLC. But the title I am most proud of is “SURVIVOR OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE”.

I lived a life of hurts, habits, and hang-ups and this resulted in my inability to recognize who I was. I lived without control of my own life, decisions, or destiny because I would not forgive those who played a part in diminishing my light and causing me to walk in my darkness for years.

Now don’t get me wrong, I had a lot to do with my own demise as well but for years I blamed others because I was not strong enough to understand that I didn’t have to stay in my past or even continue to blame my past, I could move on from my past..but we will get to that later.
I urge you to keep an open mind and receive what I have to offer with loving-kindness. It is only my hope that one day, you will be able to enter your own destiny.
You cannot see my scars, black eyes, bruised ribs, or busted lip. You cannot see my tears. Just because you cannot see them does not mean it did not happen. They are gone now, and I am a survivor.
But there was a time I wore a mask. We all wear masks. Masks of mass deception. Masks to deceive our family, friends, coworkers, and all we come in contact with. We even wear a mask to protect the person who inflicted the pain. Fear, guilt, and shame keep us bound and in turmoil…

1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men will be abused. Every 9 seconds a woman will be abused. I AM A SURVIVOR! I continued to GO BACK and pull my sisters and even my brothers out of bondage.
I have been threatened and cursed out but I will continue my quest to free those who are still in bondage. I will continue to fight for them until they can fight for themselves.

One day we think we are where we want to be. We think that all our t’s are crossed and all our I’s are dotted. WE are in the space we made for ourselves and feeling real comfortable right now.
Then life shows up and things begin to become just a little off-kilter. We keep it moving through life and before we know it, years have gone by. We think we are doing our work, getting our lives right. But situations arise and show us we are not fully finished with our “work”.
You see, we get men and women who can do one or two things. They can bring out the worst in us or the best in us. This is determined if we are fully complete with our real work.
Footsteps to Freedom is something I needed to do. Something that made me feel stronger and better about who I am. It makes me understand me, but my hope is it allows you to understand!
